I HATE Camping

So why did we start a business in the Camping industry?

After avoiding the conversation for as long as I could I finally caved in. It was February 2020 and Amanda made me go camping with our friends at Opoutere.

For 38 years I had done my best to avoid tents, air mattresses and getting woken up at 5 in the morning by the horrible morning sun.

Apart from these three terrible pitfalls associated with sleeping in a canvas hothouse for a week, the weather was great and the experience was fantastic.

I needed a way to camp, but without the tent, with a comfortable bed and black out blinds.

Two weeks later at the Covi Caravan and RV show we bought a Jayco Journey caravan

But Covid was coming! Level 4 Lockdown started the week later.

After Covid lockdowns, factory slowdowns and shipping disasters we finally got our new caravan in September.

Like many we needed to get out of Auckland to try and forget the horror that was homeschooling our kids.

An awesome 10 day holiday was had, with a comfy bed and blackout blinds.

But we discovered a problem;

The kids' bunks were a breeding ground for injury.

Not for the kids, but for US!

We suffered a head injury, cramp and getting stuck while trying to make the top bunk.

There had to be a better way; So we created the Glaamp All in 1 bedding system.

For the rest of 2020 and 2021 we made prototypes and even sold a few that were sewn on our kitchen table.

In 2022 we decided to make Glaamp official and launch. I sourced a factory in China that could make our bedding system and placed the first order.

Sales started to flow in and we ticked along for the rest of the year.

After that first order and with customer feedback now on board we decided that 2023 would be the year of a redesign. We added Warm Wings and we now offer King Single, Double and Queen sizes.

As successful Pre Sale has almost sold all the first Version 2.0 order, so we have had to order more for Christmas.

Now it's time to go all in.

Thank you so much for signing up to follow along this journey, stay tuned for more updates.

Happy Glaamping
